About the Singapore Free Trade Agreements

The US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (USSFTA) was signed in 2003 and includes provisions that exempt US citizens from paying ABSD on residential property purchases in Singapore. This makes Singapore property investment significantly more accessible for American buyers.

Similar provisions exist under the EFTA-Singapore Free Trade Agreement for citizens of Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

Important notes

• You must hold citizenship of one of the eligible countries at the time of purchase

• Permanent residents of these countries do not automatically qualify

• Standard stamp duties and legal fees still apply

• Property must be purchased for residential purposes
